SWIMMING POOLS DIVISION
Swimming pools offer a means of social interaction and have the ability to bring diverse groups of people together. The primary aim for the Municipality’s swimming pools is to provide and maintain a safe aquatic environment for recreational and competitive activities.
Also, it aims to ensure that all citizens are water safe” with a Mission that 3.5 million citizens of eThekwini Municipality have the ability to utilize all Aquatic facilities and open water areas with the confidence of being water safe.
The City’s pools are divided into four (4) categories namely:
GRADE A: Olympic Standard, Electronic Systems, Heated and Indoor Competition.
It meets FINA (International standards)
GRADE B: Olympic Size 50 metre pool Competitive/Recreational
GRADE C: Non-Olympic size 25 x 25 m standard recreational pool
GRADE D: Paddling Pools, Tidal Pools & Non-Fence-Free Access

Summer period -(1st October to 30th April) :
Monday to Friday; 06h00 – 18h00 Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays; 09h00-17h00 Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays for Coastal Pools only 06h00 – 17h00
Winter period-(1st May to 30th September):
Monday to Friday; 09h30 – 17h00 Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays; 09h00-17h00 There will be two hourly intermitted swimming times (this is affording all bathers access to the facility whilst adhering to COVID-19 protocols) i.e. 06h00 – 08h00 (swimming time) 08h00 – 08h30 (pool will be closed to disinfect common areas) 08h30 – 10h30 (swimming time) 10h30 – 11h00 (pool will be closed to disinfect common areas) etc until pool closure time NB: There about 52 pools in the eThekwini Region

Outreach programme (whereby our Lifesavers/Pool Supervisors teach swimming skills to school children, senior citizens and general members of the public Education Awareness on operation of pool filtration; water purification; basic first aid, CPR and pool bylaws.
