A suspect, who alleged killed a police officer, was killed during a shootout.

A MURDER suspect was killed during a shootout with police in uMlazi, Z-Section. The suspect is alleged to have killed a Metro Police Officer. Metro Police Spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu commended officers for their e orts in the investigation which led them to the location of the suspect. “Our Durban Metro Police Service Trio Crime Unit was involved in a confrontation with a suspect linked to the killing of one of our members,” said Zungu.

The suspect is alleged to have drawn his weapon when he saw the police approaching. “When approached by our Crime Prevention Team, the suspect drew a rearm and shot at our officers. Fortunately, their bulletproof vests prevented any serious injury,” Zungu added. However, an 11-year-old child was injured during the shootout. “It is regretted that a child was caught in the cross re. We are monitoring the recovery of the child who sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the operation,” said Zungu. One firearm was recovered on the scene.
