Thandazile Sabela in ward 67 was elated when she received the keys to her new home from Councillor Siphephelo Mnyandu. The house was donated by businessman Simphiwe Nzama.
THERE were smiles and tears of joy when Thandazile Sabela from ward 67, in Adama Mission received the key to her new home. She will never forget the moment that changed her life forever. The house was donated by local businessman Simphiwe Nzama. Explaining the timeline of events, Councillor Siphephelo Mnyandu, said a call for a house was made by a Community Development Worker and the war room team after identifying that Sabela needed a home urgently. “She relies on an oxygen machine because of a medical condition and needed adequate and safe shelter for her health,” explained Councillor Mnyandu.
Councillor Mnyandu and the ward 67 war room committee, under Operation Sukuma Sakhe, held a gala dinner in September last year to raise the necessary funds. And the business community came to the party as on 10 May Sabela received the keys to her new home. Speaking during the house handover, Councillor Mnyandu said: “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this project and made this day possible. I particularly want to thank businessman Simphiwe Nzama who donated this beautiful house.” He said Sabela had to be hooked to an oxygen machine constantly.
Her previous house was in a bad condition, and because it was so dusty, she often ended up in hospital. Sabela was overcome with emotion during the handover. “I want to thank everyone who played a part so I could own my own home, it has changed my life,” she said. The house has four bedrooms, a lounge and dining room, kitchen, and toilet. Nzama declined to comment or take pictures.
