Sports Programme For SDB Youth

18 August, 2008

The South Durban Basin ABM together with the City’s Sports and Recreation Department is embarking in a sports development programme for the youth in the SDB area.

This programme began with the handing over of basketball and netball kits to 16 schools  in an event held at the Isipingo Hills Primary School earlier this year. Lee D’Eathe, SDB Area Manager said, “The SDB Team acknowledge the importance of sports, hence we have initiated a programme that will contribute towards the holistic social development of young people in the SDB.”

The Sports Development Task team has been formed including representative from the Provincial sports department, City’s sports department and other role players in different sports codes in the SDB, with an intention to organise and co-ordinate sports initiatives and lure youth to participate in sports.  SDB Social Development Manager, Eurakha Singh said, “The ultimate goal is to develop a structure which will be able to organize and co-ordinate sports activities in the area”
