In its drive to beautify the entrance on to the Bluff, the South Durban Basin Team has completed the formalised pathway from Edwin Swales Drive to Bayview Road. This comes just after the landscaping of the Edwin Swales Drive. Philani Africander, SDB Project Officer said, “This has been made possible through the Urban Greening and Open Spaces Development Programme which is spearheaded by the South Durban Basin Area Based Management Team, designed and implemented by line department through contactors”.
Said Africander, “We have installed bollards to prevent illegal dumping and we would like to appeal to all residences to work with us and report anyone found dumping or destroying the property”. “The park boasts nice landscaping and trees have been pruned to make it more visible”, added Africander.
Another project, the upgrade of the K1 Park, will commence in May. The SDB ABM Team has engaged affected communities as part of its Community Participation exercise. All stakeholders agreed to put up the cycle track, bollards to prevent dumping and pathway. Communities are urged to take ownership of the park by reporting vandalism and illegal dumping. If anyone has information on facilities or equipment being damaged or dumping in the parks or open spaces, contact Johnny Smith, Parks Law Enforcement Officer on 076 934 8026 or 031-311 5717.
