Beach Road Closures On Track

Beach Road Closures On Track

The Festive Season Management Committee (Fesmac), has been meeting weekly to fine tune their plans to ensure a trouble-free season. The committee comprises council departments and external agencies, including the emergency medical rescue services, and the SAPS. A special traffic management system will be in place, with some of the roads leading to the beachfront being closed, some temporarily and others for the duration of the season.

Playfair Road will be reserved parking for residents with special permits. Stopping will be restricted at Gillespie Street, Baumann Road and OR Tambo (Marine) Parade. South Beach Avenue, Hospital Road, and Sylvester Ntuli (Brickhill) Road will be closed over the festive period. Controlled road closures will be implemented on Somtseu Road, Monty Naicker Road (Pine Street), Dr Pixley KaSeme (West) Street, Anton Lembede (Smith) Street, Dr Langalibalele Dube (Winder) Street, and Rutherford Street. Other controlled closures will be at Bell Street; K E Masinga (Old Fort) Road; Snell Parade; Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road, and Bram Fischer (Ordinance) Road.

Minibus taxis and buses will be allowed to offload and load passengers only on Sylvester Ntuli (Brickhill) and Mahatma Gandhi (Point) roads. Minibus taxes will have designated, 24-hour parking at the Centrum site, while buses will park at the Durban drive-in site. In Westbrook, discs will be issued to limit vehicle access. A similar festive season vehicle disc will be available to Umdloti residents.
