Production and Display

Production & Display is responsible for all plant production and indoor display work for the city. The work is undertaken at 5 separate nurseries i.e.

• Decorative Nursery producing all the Department's tropical plants.
• Bridgevale Nursery producing mainly ground covers for the Northern area.
• Randles Nursery producing a range of local and exotic trees and palms for the Durban metro area.
• Farewell Road nursery producing ground cover for the Southern area.
• Hillary Nursery producing the Department's seedlings, flowering annuals, hanging baskets and unit containers.

The Department also has a Sales Nursery which sells surplus plants to the public, situated in St. Thomas Road. Times 10:30 - 14:00 Monday to Friday.

Display section provides the various Council Departments with indoor office plants as well as providing floral and plant display for the numerous civic function for the Mayors Parlour.

The Branch also manages the Department's Tissue Culture laboratory which is involved with research and development of medicinal plants.
