The Public Transport Department is a new addition to the ETA. Comprising three branches, the function of this department is:

• To manage the Durban Transport Contract to ensure that the operator delivers the correct service and that passengers receive a good level of service.
• To intervene in the regulation and operation of Taxi and Minibus Taxi services to ensure that the service provided is by legal operators and is in accordance with the needs of the City and the passengers.
• To liaise with all representatives of all modes of public transport to ensure that problem areas are resolved, for the benefit of the City and the passengers.
