Vision & Mission

The eThekwini Transport Authority's Vision is aligned to that of the National Department of Transport, which is to:

Provide safe, reliable, effective, efficient and fully integrated transport operations and infrastructure which would best meet the needs of freight and passenger customers at improving levels of service and cost in a fashion which supports government strategies for economic and social development, whilst being environmentally and economically sustainable.

This Vision, required to guide activities and to enable the setting of relevant and realistic objectives, is aligned to the national vision on land passenger transport, to “promote a safe, reliable, effective, efficient, coordinated, integrated, and environmentally friendly land passenger transport system in South African urban and rural areas, and the southern African Region, managed in an accountable manner to ensure that people experience improving levels of mobility and accessibility”.

It is also aligned to the eThekwini IDP Vision which states that by:

2020 eThekwini Municipality will enjoy the reputation of being Africa’s most caring and livable city, where all citizens live in harmony.  This Vision will be achieved by growing its economy and meeting peoples’ needs so that all citizens enjoy a high quality of life with equal opportunities, in a city that they are truly proud of.
