The eThekwini Municipality (Durban) is approximately 3 500 square kilometres in extent.  DSW provides a weekly domestic waste removal service to approximately 650 000 households by employing labour directly or by appointing contractors or community co-operatives. In the region of 55 000 dwellings currently do not enjoy this service and it is our objective to eliminate this backlog by January 2006.

Our Purpose

To protect the environment and the communities of eThekwini Municipality from the adverse effects of poor waste management practices through an environmentally acceptable, cost-effective and sustainable waste management service.

Our Mission

To contribute to a clean and healthy environment and vibrant economy for the eThekwini Area, through responsible solid waste management practices, recognising solid waste as a useful resource wherever possible.
