KwaMashu Town Centre

An integrated “package of plans'' was formulated to address the needs, problems and opportunities of the partially developed town centre of this major dormitory suburb.

Working with the planning and urban design consultant, CNN Architects, the branch contributed to the infrastructure upgrade programme, comprising the following:

• An upgraded and landscaped walkway / plaza along an existing route to and from the railway station.
• Creation of a central park for entertainment and social events, as well as passive recreation.
• Extension of Bhejane Road through the town centre which with additional service roads, will generate a framework for development of vacant sites for both public facilities and private enterprise.

With the reconstruction of Malandela Road, streetscape enhancement along this arterial route is also planned.
