Repairs to the Westridge Park Tennis Stadium

Westridge

The Westridge stadium is located off Jan Smuts Drive, near Tollgate bridge.  On the 17th of April the World Veteran Tennis Championship was initiated in Durban.

Up to 600 individuals entered from 27 countries. This tournament is held on a yearly basis throughout the world and this year South Africa was awarded the opportunity.

The tennis courts therefore needed to be refurbished to meet the quality that the International Tennis Federation required.  The Architectural Maintenance team took on the project.  Numerous tasks had to be completed, for example, the resurface of 25 Tennis Courts at Westridge alone, upgrading of club houses, fencing the entire perimeter (approximately 1350 meters), etc.

The project was initiated on the 16 January 2006 and completed on the 15 April 2006.  One of the most challenging aspects of the project was to procure, adjudicate and appoint a contractor with enough stock on hand and resources to lay 1165 meters of steel palisade fencing within 4 days; however, it was a success.
