50% Discounted Traffic Fines Deadline Draws Near27 August, 2008 14:00 eThekwini Metro Police’s 50% discounted traffic fines is eight days away from the closing date.Motorists with outstanding traffic fines are encouraged to pay before the deadline of September 4, 2008. People who have paid their fines through Shoprite Checkers or the Hyper Market have unfortunately not received a discount, as these chain stores do not recognise the discount in their systems. Should you wish to pay your traffic fine, you must approach the Central Metro Police Station at 16 Old Fort Place. Joyce Khuzwayo Metro Police Spokeswomen said, “all those who have paid their traffic fines at the above stores should come to our offices for a refund and ensure that they bring their invoices along”. Motorists can call 031 311 2860/1/2/3/4/5, 031 311 2849 and 031 311 2860. The operational hours on weekdays are between 07h30 and 18H00 and during the weekend they are 07h030 to 12h00 to verify their traffic fines status. The fines apply only to those who received their traffic fines within the eThekwini Municipality boaders. “There is also now a tendency for people to drive without the registration numbers of their vehicles. It is believed that they deliberately remove these so that they can not be tracked down if they commit a traffic offence,” said Joyce Khuzwayo. She went on to say that registration plates and licensing of motor vehicles are important as classified by the National Road Traffic Act and that such offences are not part of the 50% discounted fines. The same applies to motorists who deliberately exceed the speed limit. Khaya Sengani For more information contact: Joyce Khuzwayo, Metro Poilce |
