Power Restored In Durban South Area

23 July, 2008 15:00

Power to the south Durban is expected to be restored by late this evening, 23 July.   This is after the tower that fell yesterday morning and plunged the Isipingo and Prospecton areas into darkness was repaired and stabilised during the early hours of this morning. ‘The emergency maintenance teams worked through the night to try and sort out the problem,’ said Tony Dold from eThekwini Electricity

He went on to say that working throughout the night has yielded benefits. All indications point to power being restored even earlier than was earlier reported.  Explaining further Dold said, ‘If all goes according plan  we are confident that power will be restored to the affected areas by late this evening.’

The temporary repair on the existing tower will only allow for a single circuit operation, as the tower cannot be repaired to its full mechanical strength. While the temporary single circuit configuration would restore power to all affected customers, a secondary feed will not be available in the event of a major transmission line fault.
