International and Governance Relations Home Page

Our department ensures that all international relations and relations with all spheres of government in South Africa give maximum value and effectiveness to the Integrated Development Plan of the Municipality by providing international and inter governmental relations policies, programmes and projects.

In addition the department provides support and guidance to all municipal departments on international and governance matters as well as ensuring that a positive international profile of the eThekwini Municipality is created and sustained.

Local Government in South Africa has become part of a dynamic global environment. Appropriate engagement with international community and co-operative arrangements can generate significant benefit for our Municipality and the communities we serve.

We seek to promote our Metropolitan Region as an attractive tourism and investment location. We want to contribute towards the creation of economic, technological and cultural partnerships with other localities. Most importantly we need to ensure the sustainability of initiatives taken to date.
