Vision Statement for the eThekwini Municipality

By 2020 the eThekwini Municipality will enjoy the reputation of being Africa’s most liveable city, where all citizens live in harmony.

This vision will be achieved by growing it’s economy and meeting people’s needs so that all citizens enjoy a high quality of life with equal opportunities in a city that they are truly proud of.

A new way of doing business

To create a better quality of life for all its people, the eThekwini Municipality has embarked on a process of transformation to align the organisation with its vision. New legislation (the Municipal Systems Act) makes it necessary for local government to act in a more developmental manner and focus its activities around the needs and interests of the people. The process followed is the strategic formulation of a long term plan, the Long Term Development Framework, supported by the Integrated Development Plans created every five years.

The council has numerous policies in place so that its 2020 vision can be realised.
