With it’s great weather (320 plus sunny days a year) and diverse communities, the people of Durban are sport crazy.

Two major annual sporting events are the Comrades Marathon and the Dusi Canoe Marathon.

Durban is the home base for some of the major provincial and professional teams across sporting disciplines. Kings Park Stadium is the home of the Sharks, and the KZN Rugby Union and Kingsmead is the home of the Dolphins, and the KZN Cricket Union.

Two professional football teams – Manning Rangers and Zulu Royals keep the soccer fans loyal, although most local fans are have allegiance to one of the older Gauteng clubs, like Pirates or Chiefs. Manchester United has a very big fan base in Durban.

Greyville race track is situated in the heart of Durban and hosts of two of South Africa's premier horse racing events each year, The Durban July and The Gold Cup. To the South of the city is the Clairwood Race Track.

Other Durban sports include, amongst othere, paragliding, surfing and scuba diving.
