Although eThekwini has enough buzz to entertain, enthrall and exhaust anyone, it is also a great kick-off place for some exhilarating weekends or Berg, Bush and Battlefields or if you prefer it, Beer. So whether you feel like a coastal cruise of a mountain hike, it is all within a short drive from the city.

If you enjoy hiking in the mountains, trout fishing, or just relaxing in country air you should check out the Drakensberg. Those who are partial to a pint should try the Brew route.

KwaZulu-Natal is known for it's Midlands Meander -  a unique mix of more than 160 places to eat, drink, sleep, shop, play and generally have fun.

And don't forget about our wildlife - how about a weekend with the Big Five? Spend it game watching one of KZN’s variety of parks or reserves. You can choose to go five star or rough it or somewhere in between.

We boast some beautiful reserves, especially the Greater St Lucia Wetland, and the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi, Ithala and Mkuze Game Reserves.

Then there are the coasts - you could have a lovely weekend at the friendly South Coast, or try the North Coast for the same sun, sand and surf, with a visit to a casino in the mix as well.

History lovers have a feast of options - trace the footsteps fo Gandhi on the Inanda Heritage Trail in Durban or go further inland to see the battlefields of the Anglo-Boer and Anglo-Zulu wars, especially Isandlwana, site of a famous battle where Zulu troops routed British soldiers on a hot January day in 1879.

Here are some other options to consider:

The Amble Route - www.theamble.kzn.org.za/theamble/

'The Amble' is a tourism route initiative aimed at promoting the services and attractions of the Bishopstowe, Cramond, Wartburg, Kranskop and Greytown areas of the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
