Mahasiddha Kadampa Buddhist Centre
By Londi Mteshane The Mahasiddha Kadampa Buddhist Centre can be described as both a temple and a meditation centre and offers meditation classes and courses for the public. The Mahasiddha, formerly located in Kloof, has relocated in 2 Hollings Road in Malvern, Queensburgh. The Centre is a government registered non-profit organisation and has a eighty seater meditation room, which holds an exquisite shrine with Buddha statues. The room is said to be 'mind transforming' and everyone who visits comments on the soothing effect it has on their heart. Buddhists focus on training the mind through meditation. This is a method to control the mind and make it peaceful. Buddha, who was born in Northern India over 2 500 years ago, taught that both happiness and suffering depend on the mind. The resident teacher is a fully ordained (English speaking) western monk from South Africa. Presently Gen Kelsang Sangdak is teaching meditation and basic Buddhist view and practice every Wednesday evening 7pm at the Centre. Day courses are also offered. Courses and teachings include topics such as ‘happiness through meditation’, learning to love without attachment and ‘how to abandon anger’. The Centre welcomes all those wanting to benefit from its teachings and is in no way race, gender, religion or age specific. For more information call the Centre on 031 464 0984, visit www.meditateindurban.org or email info@meditateindurban.org. |
