You Raise Me Up - A Tribute To Josh Groban

30 July, 2008

Singer extraordinaire Rory McLaren, presents an opportunity to experience the music of Josh Groban up close and personally in an intimate environment as the dynamic vocalist performs You Raise Me Up - A Tribute to Josh Groban, at the Rhumbelow Theatre.

This popular multi-talented vocalist and keyboard wizard has been wowing audiences throughout the country - from his scintillating performances fronting the Port Elizabeth based Centre stage All-Star band in their box office hit Magnificent 7 series as Freddie Mercury, to his acclaimed portrayal of Elvis seen in the city recently, McLaren now moves his focus away from rock n roll into the direction of an Opera influenced genre with equal ease.

The show takes in a range of musical styles, with renditions of classics which Groban has made his own, such as Oceana and Nessan Dorma, to include his hits such as Remember When It Rained, To Where You Are, When You Say You Love Me, The Prayer, You Are Loved and the title song You Raise Me Up.

Groban’s SA collaboration on Weeping is also included, as are popular songs such as Vincent, Your Song, Imagine, Charlie Chaplin’s Smile and Music of the Night, all either taken from album arrangements or from live performances in which Groban put his indelible stamp on these selections.

“It’s not just the songs themselves (which I adore), but it’s in the way that Josh Groban interprets them with such highly charged manner that appeals to me”, says McLaren.

“Each song has an emotional authenticity which is extremely moving. While many of the songs are huge, the smaller cabaret setting allows me to connect with my audience in a much more intimate way, which is very exciting”, he continued.

McLaren’s tribute to Josh Groban comes to Durban after being invited to perform two sell-out performances at last year’s Hilton festival.
