Bay of Plenty Music Festival20 August, 2008 Celebrating 40 years of Durban Music Durban's steamy tropical climate and sun kissed lifestyle has, over many decades, produced an incredible number of South Africa's finest artists. Many of the various art forms have been well served - but it is mostly in the field of music that Durban has really come to the fore and produced some exceptionally innovative musicians and groups. One can speculate that more than any other city in South Africa, Durban's musicians have set the tone towards reconciliation by pioneering and integrating cultural and musical influences. Many of these gifted musicians have never received their due recognition or received mass acclaim for their outstanding musical contributions and powerful cultural impact due to many different reasons. The "Bay of Plenty Festival" will celebrate 40 years of music in Durban. Showcased at this unique Festival will be outstanding artists and groups going back forty odd years and leading right up to the present. The stage itself will be called the "Sipho Gumede Stage" in honour of the late great jazzman. There will be an incredibly broad spectrum of music featured, with the focus on Durban's vibrant multi-culturalism. The artist roster crosses over boundaries of age, race and creed and includes some exciting for everyone. If you've been a lover of Durban music, this is indeed a not to be missed event.
