Youth benefits from skills development initiative
In a bid to empower young people, Ward 61 war room hosted a one day seminar at the uThongathi Town Hall where about 150 young people were given an opportunity to learn financial skills.

The seminar was held in partnership with KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) skills development intervention and Zizi Training on 13 July. During the seminar, the youth was advised on a range of issues relating to financial management.

Sanelisiwe Peter, 21, said she learned a lot and hoped that such platforms will be made available for others. “With the economy not doing well it is difficult to find jobs. Today, however, was an eye opener for me because I now know how to save money if I want to start a business.”

Ward 61 war room convener, James Gumede said when the programme was presented to them by the KZN skills development intervention they saw a good opportunity to help young people. “We want to contribute to the development of young people in Ward 61 and we welcome anyone who brings about such opportunities.”

Nozipho Khuzwayo from Zizi Training, said the seminar also focused on the National Credit Act. “We wanted young people to know their rights as consumers.”

The war room with its partners will be hosting additional workshops with the focus on entrepreneurial skills and business development.
