Turnaround strategy fast-tracks disciplinary cases
EThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda has applauded the progress made by the City in dealing with the backlog of disciplinary cases.

A turnaround strategy was developed to fast-track the process of investigations and disciplinary hearings when the current leadership came into office in 2019.
Under the current leadership, a Clean Administration and Clean Audit Strategy was introduced.

The backlog of cases as of 31 October 2019 was 335 cases consisting of both formal and informal hearings. As of 28 February 2021, 128 of the 233 formal hearings have been resolved and a total of 91 out of 102 informal hearings have been resolved.

Speaking on the progress at the City’s Full Council meeting on 31 March Mayor Kaunda
said this was notable progress considering that Covid-19 also negatively impacted in the processing of the cases.
“We commend the senior management of the Municipality for speeding up this process as it will send a clear message to the public that we are committed in running a clean and responsive administration, said Kaunda.

“The legacy we want to leave for the future generation is clean governance so that every possible cent goes towards uplifting the quality of life of all our people,” he added.
