Sidewalks for ward 75 pedestrians
Sidewalks promote road safety for pedestrians.
ROAD safety is a high concern in most township communities because these areas are prone to negligent driving as well as irresponsible jay walking. This is what motivated ward 75 Councillor Eunice Khanyile to champion the project for building sidewalks on the Sihlahla road in Lamontville.

Councillor Khanyile sought assistance from the Vukuphile infrastructure programme under the Expanded Public Works Programme. The broad aims of the programme are infrastructure development, provision of road safety while creating job opportunities for people within the community. “This area desperately needed safe sidewalks because a lot of accidents occurred on this road as it has a sharp curve,” said Councillor Khanyile.

She added that speed humps will be erected on the road so that it becomes safer for both drivers and pedestrians. Ntokozo Mvunyane, a resident, said she was unemployed before she received an opportunity to be the project’s Community Liaising Officer. “I was able to provide for my family and the experience will boost my CV for future opportunities,” said Mvunyane.
