Owners of bed and breakfast and guesthouse establishments are urged to take advantage of the City’s Covid-19 rates relief programme bearing in mind that many sectors have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly the tourism industry.
The special rates relief is strictly for property owners categorised as above. They will be granted an additional rebate of 14 percent and 39 percent respectively, totalling 64 percent for each property category. The relief programme has been extended to the end of June.
Peet du Plessis, Head of the Revenue Management Unit explained: “In the case of multiple use properties, rates relief will apply only to the applicable rates categories allocated to the qualifying uses in question, as reflected in the valuation roll.”
Du Plessis said a property owner must be able to demonstrate loss of income by more than 60 percent and must attach supporting documents.
However, properties registered in the name of or owned by an organ of the state, either partially or wholly, will not qualify for the rates relief.
Affected property owners are urged to approach any of the Municipality’s Sizakala Centres to apply for the programme.
Customers who have received this relief in previous months need not apply again. They will continue receiving this relief until 30 June. All queries must be directed to
