R83m for Cornubia housing project Phase 1B approved
ABOUT R83 million will be set aside from the adjustment budget for the provision of 528 top structures and infrastructure for Cornubia Phase 1B. The adjustment budget was approved at a Full Council meeting on 28 September and will be incorporated in Council’s February 2018 budget.

Authority has also been granted to the City Manager, Sipho Nzuza, to negotiate and enter into a three-year Financial Grant Contract with the European Union for the facilitation and acceleration of the Incremental Informal Settlement Upgrading Initiative.

As per the conditions of the grant, it has been recorded that local support organisations are to be involved once pilot settlements have been created. The City will contribute R5m over the next three-year period towards the implementation of the project.
