Public urged to comment on GBV bill
Chairperson of the Governance and Human Resources
Committee Councillor Nompumelelo Sithole urged the
public to comment on the gender-based violence bill.

CHAIRPERSON of the Governance and Human Resources Committee Councillor Nompumelelo Sithole called on eThekwini residents to make submissions and comment on three key laws aimed at
addressing gender-based violence (GBV).

Speaking outside the home of a three-year-old boy who was allegedly raped by a 57-year-old man, Councillor Sithole said the three bills which were recently tabled by the Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola will help fight GBV. “We continue to see an increase in GBV cases in the City and across the country.

Comment on these bills so that we can see a positive change in tackling GBV in communities,” she said. She called on the community of ward 80, where the incident allegedly occurred, to come out in their numbers when the suspect appears in court on 13 October.

Comments must be submitted to V Ramaano at Gbvbills@parliament.gov.za by no later than 4pm on 9 October.
