Pedestrian bridge to enhance safety in uMlazi
It was smiles all around when eThekwini Mayor Councillor
Mxolisi Kaunda officially opened the pedestrian bridge in
uMlazi.
A NEW R28 million bridge, connecting residents of ward 93 and 86, will eliminate drowning incidents which had become a norm in the Ezimbokodweni River.

The City’s senior leadership, led by eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda officially opened the pedestrian bridge in uMlazi on 27 October.

Mayor Kaunda said construction of the 160 metres long Ezimbokodweni Bridge was completed two months ahead of schedule. “The bridge was installed with lighting to ensure safety of residents during the night,” he said. He urged residents to safe guard the bridge against people who would want to vandalize and damage it.

He said employment opportunities were created during the construction as R4.7million was allocated to local businesses. Ward 86 Councillor Sindisiwe Shange said before the construction of the bridge, residents struggled to travel to clinics and other amenities. .All of this, she said, will now be a thing of the past.
