Pavements to alleviate road accidents in ward 69
Councillor Ganas Govender next to a pavement construction site.
THE inclement weather in Durban in recent years has compelled eThekwini Municipality to double its efforts to improve infrastructure around the City. Bayview is one of the areas where sidewalks and pavements are currently being constructed.

The construction of the pavement in Lenny Drive, next to a busy mall is nearing completion. The project commenced in April and is set to be completed at the end of May. Ward 69 Councillor Ganas Govender said another project that is underway in his area is the building of 32 houses for disadvantaged residents.

The housing project started in November last year. “I am grateful that EThekwini Human Settlement and Roads and Stormwater units have finally answered the concerns of our residents for provision of safety and decent accommodation. I’m also pleased to see that infrastructure is being improved as the heavy rains left many roads damaged,” he said.

Councillor Govender said residents welcomed the construction of pavements along Lenny Drive. He said because the road is situated next to a busy shopping mall, the project will ensure the safety of pedestrians. “Residents will now be not afraid to send their children to shops when the pavement is complete,” he said.
