New City Manager to take eThekwini to greater heights
EThekwini City Manager Sipho Nzuza
NEWLY appointed eThekwini Municipality City Manager, Sipho Nzuza will vigorously work towards ensuring that the City of eThekwini is rated as one of the top five liveable and attractive modern cities in the world.

Nzuza, 54, who officially assumed the top position on 1 May, wants to achieve this grandiose goal within the first three years of his five year tenure at the helm. A poised Nzuza, who has previously served as an advisor to the City’s Executive Committee on audit and risk matters in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), said he will use his role as the City Manager to champion the City’s growth and development plans. ”Being a City Manager of the eThekwini Metro is a great opportunity to contribute the knowledge and skill I have developed over the years.

As a resident of eThekwini, having been born and bred in Durban, it gives me pleasure to be part of a team that makes our City a great modern City in the world,” he said. Nzuza not only brings a wealth of experience to the City, having occupied several senior management positions from different companies, ranging from banks to auditing firms and the maritime industry, but he has also served as a director in a number of boards. The experience he has garnered over the years will be pivotal in his quest to tackle some of the challenges the City faces, like unemployment, poverty, low levels of economic growth, and environmental issues as a result of climate change.

Going forward, Nzuza will also build on the City’s strengths like, robust strategic direction, well defined long-term development plans, financially strong ratepayer base, well-funded and managed balance sheet and highly skilled and experienced manpower. Nzuza is no stranger to local government, having acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience serving in a number of audit committees for metros and district municipalities. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) from the University of South Africa (Unisa) in 1989.

He also holds Higher Diploma in Taxation (H.Dip. Tax) from the then University of Durban Westville
(UDW) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from same university. EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede said she is excited about Nzuza’s appointment as he would bring “character and good governance” to his role as City Manager.
