Free skills training at uThongathi
Deputy Mayor Fawzia Peer received a warm welcome from
the Belvedere Multi-Skills Centre.
ETHEKWINI Municipality residents are urged to visit a multi-skills centre in uThongathi which aims to empower the youth, unemployed and senior residents through a variety of programmes.

The Belvedere Multi-Skills Centre offers a wide range of free skills empowerment programmes to the public. Deputy Mayor Fawzia Peer who opened the centre early this year revisited the establishment on 11 October. The Deputy Mayor praised the community for taking an interest in empowering themselves and creating a sustainable livelihood.

Councillor Peer encouraged centre members to be role models for the youth and to continue with their good work. Chairperson of the centre, Pushpa Govender said the purpose of the centre is to empower unemployed people and create job opportunities. Govender said: “All age groups are welcome to join the centre for free.

We teach people how to sew, design clothing and much more. We want to create a society that does not wait for the government to provide them with jobs.” The centre recently handed over 6 000 soft toys made by members which will be distributed to underprivileged children.

The centre is open every Thursday between 10 am and 1 pm at the Belvedere Community Hall.  For more details, contact Pushpa Govender on 032 944 6892 or 073 897 9944.
