Fight against HIV and TB continues
Learner Zibuyile Mseleku received her certificate from Councillor
Sibusiso Khwela (Left) and facilitator Winnie Mzimela (Right).
THE excitement was written on the faces of the ten trainees who received certificates of completion on 14 March after participating in Human Immune Virus (HIV) and Tuberculosis (TB) awareness training. The five day training was facilitated by nongovernment organization Melitha free of charge.

Their training is part of a pilot programme which aims to train ten people in each ward as part of the
National Strategic Plan that encourages government, the private sector and communities to respond collectively to HIV, TB and sexually transmitted diseases. Ward 17 Councillor Sibusiso Khwela said he is happy that this training will empower residents with the knowledge on how to prevent and treat these illnesses. “This will prolong the lives of people already living with the virus while also preventing new infections,” he said.

Winnie Mzimela, one of the training facilitators, said the certificates allowed the recipients to work as Ward Aids Committee members. “They will also assist community war rooms by reporting cases that need attention in the community. Our aim is to reach people and encourage them to get tested for HIV and TB and to link them to the necessary healthcare to reduce deaths caused by these diseases,” she said.
