Drone Pilot Training and Accelerator Programme
Innovate Durban, supported by the City’s Economic Development Unit, has partnered with Mzansi Aerospace Technologies and the Transport Education and Training Authority to train and equip 20 Durban-based young unemployed graduates and start-ups/SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) with drone piloting and entrepreneurial skills.

Drone pilot training is set to take place between April and May. Twenty selected candidates will receive theoretical and practical training, which will culminate in them being awarded RPAS Pilot Licence (RPL) accredited by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA). The above partnership will also run a 20-week Drone Accelerator Programme between June and October. This programme is targeted at the 10 founders or co-founders of start-ups/ SMEs that will have received Recognition of Prior Learning training. They will be put through an intensive 20-week accelerated incubation programme that will conclude in a demo day pitching to potential funders and investors.
