Creating a gender balanced society

WITH a sole purpose of creating awareness around gender-based violence in the workplace, the City Integrity and Investigations Unit (CIIU) invited motivational speaker Linda Ntuli for an inspirational talk on ‘creating a winning culture,’ on 7 December.

The day’s programme reinforced the important role that the CIIU plays in creating a just society that promotes gender equality without discrimination. “Before we become activists against gender-based violence during 16 days of activism campaign, we need to activate the greatness within us. We need to invest in positive thoughts and must remember that strength lies in differences not in similarities.” Ntuli said while violence against women and children is a harsh reality, she applauded the City for its numerous programmes which seek to deal with the scourge.

CIIU Head Mbuso Ngcobo said the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign is observed in the midst of International Anti-Corruption Day on 9 December. “The 16 days of activism is not limited to this period but is backed up by year-long programmes that equip CIIU staff to rise up against gender violence faced by the public and within the organisation.

As watchdogs, the CIIU is committed to changing negative perceptions about the role women play in society and protecting basic human rights.” EThekwini Municipality’s gender vision is working towards the attainment of gender equality so that both men and women have equal opportunities.
