City selected as finalists for Top Women Awards-Public Sector
Congratulations to eThekwini Municipality for adding another feather to its cap.
Congratulations to eThekwini Municipality for adding another feather to its cap. This comes after the City was nominated as a finalist in the 17th Annual Standard Bank Top Women Awards 2020.

Chairperson of the Corporate Human Resources (CHR) Committee Councillor Nompumelelo Sithole extended her heartfelt congratulations saying City officials were humbled to be selected as finalists.

“We are extremely proud of the CHR Cluster and the City for being nominated. This is a significant nomination which shows our efforts towards gender empowerment. It is truly an honour to compete at a national level. I thank all officials for setting an example and working towards equity, diversity and inclusion,” said Councillor Sithole.

Acting Deputy City Manager of Corporate Human Resources, Kim Makhathini said City officials are extremely excited to be nominated as a finalist in the Standard Bank Top Women Awards 2020 in the public sector category.

The Standard Bank Top Women Awards honours those whose unfailing vision and innovative leadership have positively impacted women in South Africa. In response to the unprecedented global pandemic, the awards were hosted virtually.

Makhathini said being selected as finalists shows that all stakeholders are committed to transforming the City and are working towards realising eThekwini’s 2030 vision.

“Let us continue to work together to achieve employment equity, diversity and inclusion goals for the betterment of society. I would like to thank all staff for their endless efforts and contributions made towards this nomination. Please join me and embrace October as Global Diversity Awareness month by participating in a #30day Diversity and Inclusion challenge to create an inclusive workforce,” said Makhathini.

Topco Media Head of Marketing, Karla Fletcher said: “We believe that now more than ever, it is crucial to recognise the companies and individuals, such as eThekwini Municipality, who are making an impactful change for gender empowerment in South Africa.”

Fletcher added that the pivot to a virtual format allowed the awards an opportunity to increase its footprint across the country like never before.

“We aimed to reach 10 000 businesswomen and entrepreneurs during the virtual conference and awards,” Fletcher said.

The virtual event, which was held on 2 October, saluted those accelerating transformation and creating awareness around women empowerment while also facilitating discussions and workshops around furthering gender empowerment in the country.

Please join Makhathini’s call to participate in the #30DayInclusionChallenge which inspires us to think, feel and do inclusion for 30 days. For more information on the #30DayInclusionChallenge visit: https://join.30dayinclusionchallenge.com/courses/30-day-inclusion-challenge
