City Wins Two Awards At Premier’s Service Excellence Awards
EThekwini Municipality has scooped two awards at the Premier’s Service excellence Awards for effectively applying the Batho Pele principles and excelling in customer service. The Municipality’s Water and Sanitation WhatsApp reporting line received a gold award in the Best Public Service Implemented Programme or Project of the year category.

Sizakala Customer Service Unit Deputy head Mavuso Tshabalala was also recognised with a gold award in the Best Public Service Leader of the year category.

The awards, which were held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, were hosted by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu who was accompanied by various MECs and stakeholders.

The Service excellence Awards scheme is an initiative which was established in 1999 with the aim to encourage and reward public servants for their outstanding Batho Pele ethos and foster a culture of continuous service delivery improvement. These provincial awards are used as a feeder for the national Batho Pele Awards hosted by the Department of Public Service and Administration in September.

During a congratulatory address, Premier Mchunu encouraged the participants to continue servicing the 11.1 million citizens of the province with pride.

eThekwini Deputy Mayor Fawzia Peer said: “Congratulations to those who have gone the extra mile in their line of duty. Work harder and motivate others.”

Tshabalala said the award came as a result of team work.
