Annual innovation pitching den open for applications

The annual Innovation Festival (IF), scheduled to take place mostly virtually during the first week of May, is led by Innovate Durban in partnership with the City through its Economic Development Unit and other stakeholders.

The IF is aimed at thought leaders, businesses, entrepreneurs, academia, designers, government, and all innovation stakeholders to explore the latest trends in innovation from both a global and local perspective.

The festival, which targets up to 300 people, is aimed at being a premier gathering charting the way for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The programme includes keynote speakers, industry experts, panel debates, demonstrations, robotic and gaming workshops as well as innovation across sectors from grassroots social innovation to ground-breaking firsts.

The Innovation Festival Durban Pitching Den is an initiative aimed at allowing innovators to pitch their business concepts to a panel of judges. Before the final pitching, innovators attend pitch training sessions run by Innovate Durban. The Pitching Den aims to highlight innovators and innovative start-ups and opportunities, create a platform and network opportunities for innovators to pitch their businesses and to link innovators/start-ups with venture capital and angel investors. Over R100 000 in cash prices and up to R25 000 in legal advice by Adams & Adams is up for grabs for winners.

Do you have an innovative idea?

Application deadline: 26 March 2021

The competition is open to all innovators who meet the following criteria:

  • Company must be registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission
