3rd annual DCC Business Accelerator a success
​The 3rd annual Durban Chemical Cluster Business Accelerator
saw a number of small businesses receive business insight in
order to grow their operations, with three businesses
receiving grants worth R50 000.

​The third annual Durban Chemical Cluster (DCC) Business Accelerator was successfully hosted at the Capital Pearls Hotel in uMhlanga in collaboration with Bud Chemicals and Minerals.

The two-day event, which was held recently, is an initiative by the DCC to accelerate growth of small businesses through affordable financial solutions and assist established businesses source potential suppliers and innovators. The two main sponsors, Ferro Polymers and NCS Resins, have committed to driving transformation and ensuring a partnership for development with small enterprises.

The programme is designed to provide member firms with a low cost and low risk solution to managing their Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Enterprise Development, supplier development and socio-economic development spend. This initiative fast-tracks the growth of small businesses through affordable financing solutions and assisting established firms source potential suppliers and innovators. The programme saw attendance from industry experts including Paul Vermaak from Smiths Manufacturing, Rudi van Niekerk from H&R SA and Luvuyo Rani from Silulo Ulutho Technologies, share their journeys on development and importance of leadership.

The DCC is fortunate to have supported 17 small businesses in pitch preparation and will provide each business with a free one-year membership. Five of the 17 businesses will enter an intensive financial and operational mentorship programme, with the possibility of access to affordable and developmentally structured financing. Of these, three businesses will be receiving grants of up to R50 000 to accelerate their business growth.

Congratulations to the 2020 Business Accelerator Programme winners:

  • Rocky Brands- A manufacturer that develops cleaning and polishing products that are trusted by homeowners, furniture restorers, interior decorators, leading museums, embassies, craftsmen and antique experts worldwide.
  • BAP South Africa- Manufacturer of wood, plastic and aluminum pallets and cages.
  • Mamoa Skincare - Manufacturer of skincare products that helps people with skin that is prone to irritation live happier and healthier lives by providing them with natural, safe and effective skincare solutions.
