Mayoral awards for excellence 2016

The Mayor initiated these awards after recognising that there’s a lot of good work that is being done by our people out there but receives very little attention or no recognition. These awards were initiated as an incentive to encourage ever greater efforts by us all to give of ourselves in the pursuit of bettering the lives of the people of the City. This programme was rightly introduced as a consequence of witnessing firsthand, the numerous good works undertaken by residents and organisations, for who such efforts come naturally and executed without expectation of recognition or reward.

The City actively strives to engender an environment conducive to the creativity of thought, dedication to action and a spirit of selflessness. With this initiative the Mayor envisages that more people, community-based organisations and business owners will be prepared to go the extra mile, making a telling difference to the quality of life of those less fortunate around them.
