Branch libraries are circulating libraries, in other words, all books and music items can be borrowed, unlike Don Africana and Reference libraries.

These libraries have books and non books, which include English, Afrikaans, Zulu fiction and non fiction as well as a large collection of musical CD’s, DVD’s, records, cassettes, videos. Some of the branch libraries have Toy collection.

Programmes

Orientation programmes are held at these libraries for schools. Puppets  and storytelling are used to introduce basic concepts of the library to scholars. Most of these pupils have never before been into a library. The programmes are conducted in English and Zulu. Average attendance is 400 scholars. Branch libraries organise storytelling clubs, consisting of staff members who hold regular storytelling festivals in various schools and at branch libraries. An average attendance at these festivals is 300 children. During holidays branch libraries organise holiday programmes for children which include craft sessions.

General Activity rooms

Most libraries have GA rooms, and these are made available to the public. The GA rooms are made available free of charge to non govermental organisations.
